ETIQUETTE UNRAVELED
written and directed by Lake Simons and Chad Lynch

Simons unravels a silent tale through the inanimate objects surrounding her on stage. Recently performed at New York's HERE Theatre's Culturemart, Simons brings these objects to life in this solo piece spanning clown, puppetry, and dance - channeling the stylistic qualities of silent film stars and pantomimic gestures of the prima ballerina from the days of yore.

EDWARD ABBEY - WILD AND IRON SKY
adapted and directed by John Carlisle Moore, music by Darrin Kobetich

This production is an intense examination of the journals and thinking of the brilliantly irascible, incorrigible, environmentalist, Edward Abbey. The work responds to those writings through the use of paintings, movement, and readings, and scenes inspired from those writings. The broad scope of his beautiful and often scathing view of this world is material that is hard to resist. No one escapes - from Shakespeare, to Dwight Eisenhower and even Kirk Douglas. He was a rare and prescient individual whose work will endure. Musical narrative provided by Fort Worth's guitarist, Darrin Kobetich and choreography by Lori Sorderbergh.

This production contains strong language and is not recommended for children.

Read Mark Lowry's review in theaterjones.com. (read)

"But this is unusual stage work dedicated to an unusual man. In many ways it is as raw and forbidding as the desert landscapes Abbey loved. But, like those deserts, it also frequently assaults you with its fierce beauty." - Punch Shaw, Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Saturday, May 24, 2009, 14B)

"Abbey's speeches are supported by a single musician, Darrin Kobetich, who plays the score he composed on various stringed instruments throughout both acts (this is a rare two-act show for Hip Pocket). His musical accents fall so precisely and blend with the text so thoroughly that his support becomes invisible, in the most positive of ways." - Punch Shaw, Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Saturday, May 24, 2010, 14B)

"Its difficult to translate the life of Edward Abbey into a theater performance, but I think the writer/director did a great job. To say Abbey had an interesting life or that he was a great write and thinker or that he shaped the environmental movement would be an understatement. If you have read his books and want to know more about him (he had five children with five different wives), then you may want to catch one of the last four performances this Thursday - Sunday." - T. Nichols

"Nancy and I and a new Ft Worth trip leader who’s name escapes me, went to the Hip Pocket Theatre presentation of “Edward Abbey – Wild and Iron Sky”. It was a wonderful, memorable evening! Going to Hip Pocket with Nancy is a little like going to a Rangers game with Nolan Ryan." - T. Nichols

"This was my first time to Hip Pocket and I’ll go again. The little outdoor theater, which seats about 200, has a relaxed, organic, home grown vibe. Before each performance there’s live music, which with a cold beer on a hot evening, is like fresh chips and tasty salsa before some great Tex-Mex." - T. Nichols

LOWDOWN WAX
directed by Lake Simons
music by the Squirrel Nut Zippers

A visual feast of shapes and forms danced to the wistful and raw sounds of old time tunes. Lowdown Wax is a playful puppetry drama with a tad of sideshow style. Simons uses a variety of puppetry styles including object, shadow, and large scale puppets to spin the yarn that knits this eclectic tale.

6th ANNUAL PUPPETRY PAGEANT
By Erin K. Orr, Chris Green and Lake Simons
with music by Bruce Balentine

Built and performed by the DFW community

The music will inspire the pageant's visual story. Bruce Balentine and Chris Green will work with participants to create instruments from found objects and discover the sound that abounds! These musical creations will be the backbone of the event, as well as serving as puppetry elements in the pageant. As in years past, theatrical tools such as mask, movement, and a variety of puppetry styles will be utilized and expand the boundaries of puppetry. All the parade elements: puppets, masks, musical instruments, costumes, and set pieces will be built by the DFW community.

CIRCUS SALOME
from the play "Salome" by Oscar Wilde
adapted and directed by David Yeakle
music by Justin Sherburn

Oscar Wilde's notorious play, Salome, is re-imagined as a strange circus wherein the Ringmaster, Herod, lusts for his spoiled stepdaughter, the aerialist, Salome. The ominous, blasphemous and erotic elements of Wilde's original script remain intact in this circus setting, presented as a world of abusive power, gluttonous excess, and sexual desire.

(Due to the subject matter, this play is not recommended for children)

ON THE ORIGINS OF THE SPECIFICS-THE MUSICAL
written and directed by John Carlisle Moore
music by Joe Rogers

A wild, fun, and crazy ride through the cosmos, the creation, the miasma, the milieu, and the science that measures, explains, and tries to profit from it all. Narrated by an opossum, (the only creature known to have been present at the big bang and who is also known not to have evolved one iota since that moment) - the story is told through a fossil record with more gaps in it than my poor Uncle Bert's teeth right before he passed on. The first theatrical production this season to bring Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection to its final selection. The first waltz ever to be written based upon the chemical structure of DNA.
